Thousands of Americans took to the streets in cities across the country in a massive show of civil resistance dubbed the “Day of Action.” Organized by the progressive 50501 movement, over 600 protests erupted nationwide to demonstrate opposition to the political return of former President Donald Trump and to advocate for democratic principles and civil rights.

Protesters gathered in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta, carrying signs, chanting slogans, and marching peacefully in solidarity. The demonstrations aimed to spotlight perceived threats to civil liberties, the integrity of democratic institutions, and the rollback of social justice policies.
Organizers emphasized the importance of civic engagement, with voter registration booths set up and activists speaking about issues ranging from voting rights to reproductive freedoms. While largely peaceful, a few cities reported minor clashes with counter-protesters. The 50501 movement stated it plans to continue mobilizing through the 2024 election season and beyond.
