A 59-year-old Los Angeles resident has tragically died after trying to stop the theft of his truck during a dramatic police chase last Friday. The man, whose identity has not been released, clung to the side of his stolen box truck as the suspect, 33-year-old Bryan Rodriguez, sped through South Los Angeles.
According to the LAPD, the victim fell from the truck during the pursuit and was then run over by the suspect. Initially in serious condition, the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Rodriguez was arrested near Normandie and Vernon avenues after the chase ended and is being held without bail.
The incident began when Rodriguez allegedly stole the truck near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Buckingham Road, prompting the victim to intervene. As multiple 911 calls poured in, police located the truck near Florence Avenue and Broadway, but Rodriguez continued the pursuit, leading to the tragic fall.
Despite officers attempting to stop the truck with spike strips, it wasn’t until later that Rodriguez was apprehended. Some officers paused to aid the injured victim, while others continued the pursuit.
This heart-wrenching incident has shaken the community as authorities continue their investigation.
